A Festive Afternoon of Baking Gingerbread Men - Blogmas Day 8

Saturday, December 08, 2018

Me and my boyfriend both enjoy a spot of baking in our free time - it's an enjoyable and cathartic way to spend a few hours and also means we have some delicious treats to try at the end of it. I was really eager to do something festive in December, and so we decided to give gingerbread men a go. Not to be modest, but we'd really nailed our take on chocolate fudge cake and a couple of other cakes, but biscuits were the next challenge. Since this is a fun and easy Christmas bake to do, I thought I'd share it here so you can see how they turned out and maybe give it a go yourself!

Baking the gingerbread men was really easy since we decided to buy a premade box mix and all we needed to add was butter and golden syrup - which was a lot cheaper than making the dough from scratch while still being just as tasty. Despite it being such a straightforward recipe, we still managed to mess up some bits, like how we didn't have any flour to sprinkle over the work surface, so the dough kept sticking to it. We also didn't have a rolling pin and had to make a makeshift one, since who has that type of thing in uni? Regardless, we still made it work and they actually turned out pretty well!

The most enjoyable part of making gingerbread men was definitely the decorating (even if I got way too into it!) Even if you're not that neat or put in minimal effort, they end up looking really effective and it's a fun way to pass the time. For an injection of festivity, turn your gingerbread man upside down and make the arms and legs into antlers, becoming a gingerbread reindeer. These look incredibly cute and festive, it's definitely worth trying it out!

If you're looking for a simple yet effective bake then this is definitely the one for you, and you can be as precise and intricate as you wish. It was honestly such an enjoyable afternoon making these, and then you've also got some delicious treats to indulge in for the next few days!

I hope you liked this post, and if you're doing any Christmas baking this year then I'd love to see it, so make sure you tell me down in the comments! Thank you very much for reading this blog post and I'll be back again tomorrow for blogmas day 9, so I'll see you then!
