Styleicona App Review *

I've recently been in contact with the team from Styleicona. They run a really successful website that is appreciated by the public. They decided to design an app to run alongside it that will be compatible with Apple and Android products. I was given the opportunity to download their app before the release and trial it, which I am very thankful for. Today I'm bringing you an app review, which is available for download now if you want to get it!

Upon opening the app, you are given the opportunity to sign up or login to your account, depending on whether you are already registered or not. Although simple, I think this is a good way to make sure each person on the app has their own identity and can contribute as themselves, as well as reducing the amount of fake accounts and spam.

Once you are signed into your account, you are presented with a page with three sections. The main section, which is entitled 'Latest Style- Discover and Vote' is the main feature of the app, which I will talk more about later on. There is also options to take a photo and view your stylebook, which is basically your own profile. This is what it looks like.

On the main part of the app, which is all about latest fashions, is where you can see outfits that people wear and say whether you like them. Usually with multiple photos of the outfit providing close-ups, it's a great way to see what two items may look like together and rate people on their style. When clicking on the photo, you are also given the names of each brand the item was purchased from. I think this is a handy little bonus, as you are able to find out where you can get an item if you really like it.

Your stylebook is where you see an overview of your profile, as well as change your details. You can see how many styles you've uploaded and other details like that. There is a button which says 'Don't know what to wear? Ask friends.' but this didn't lead to anything. I don't know whether it was supposed to or is an upcoming feature that is yet to be released, but in my opinion it was pointless and was probably only there to keep the design symmetrical.

The take a photo option is honestly quite basic, which I wasn't too thrilled about. I expected there to be a lot of different effects to play around with, options to change the brightness and contrast and possibly even some cool editing features, but none of this was present. It was a basic camera app which you could use on the front or back camera and upload your own photos if you wished.

In the top right corner, you can view all of your friends and messages. They're placed in such a way that it might not be noticeable at first; I think they'd be better below the other two components on the page. As you can see, I don't have any friends or messages yet as I've only just downloaded the app. I really like the idea of this as it makes it more social and interactive. You can get to know people, ask for recommendations and give compliments to people, which I really like the idea of.

Overall, this app is really great and I love the concept of it. The layout and design is aesthetically pleasing and has a great colour scheme. I also think it appeals to a wide range of audiences. Some of the things that could be improved is the camera, the positioning of the friends and message bar and it could be easier to find things when you need them. For me, I felt like I was missing something the whole time, like there was a crucial part of the app that I couldn't see or find. This could be improved by adding a walk through option to the app, so you know where everything is located. The only other improvement I could suggest is adding some of the articles and blog posts from the Styleicona website onto the app, as I think people would benefit from this more and enjoy reading them.
